Finance committee approves insurance renewals, uniform bid and budgets; sets July 14 public hearing

The Terrebonne Parish School Board Finance Committee on June 23 approved a slate of routine finance items and set a public hearing on next year’s operating budgets.
On motions the committee: - Approved a student nurse professional liability insurance proposal from AMBA with limits of $1,000,000 and a $3,000,000 aggregate per student and an annual premium of about $333 (motion by Mr. Voisin; second by Mr. Ford). No objections were recorded.
- Approved renewal of group and individual life and disability insurance through Companion Life Insurance Company via Alfred and Associates, effective Oct. 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2027, under the same rates and conditions (motion by Mr. Ford; second by Mr. Voisin). Board discussion clarified that the district pays basic life coverage for active employees ($50,000) and outlined retiree reductions and per‑thousand rate approximations.
- Accepted the lowest responsive uniform voucher bid from Jake's Kids for one year beginning July 1, 2026 (motion by Mr. Ford; second by Mr. Wan). Committee noted Jake's Kids was the sole bidder and that the expenditure will supplement McKenna Vento supports and is expected to be well under $60,000.
- Adopted language allowing final 2025–26 budgets to be treated as variable budgets (estimated revenues set equal to actual revenues and appropriations set equal to actual expenditures), enabling routine year‑end adjustments required to close the books within a legally required 5% variance (motion by Mr. Ford; second by Mr. Voisin). Miss Klingman explained the accounting mechanics and fund balance treatment.
- Received proposed operating budgets for fiscal 2026–27 (general operating fund, child nutrition, various sales tax funds and special revenue funds) and established a public hearing for Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. in the Terrebonne Parish School Board office boardroom (motion by Mr. Ford; second by Mr. Voisin). Mr. Ford and other members encouraged the public to attend for transparency and questions.
