Walker council approves resolutions, sewer connection terms and equipment sales

The Walker City Council approved a slate of administrative and operational actions during its Sept. 9 meeting, including several resolutions, a utility connection arrangement and equipment transactions.
Resolutions and policy changes: On motions that carried 4–0 with one member absent, the council adopted Resolution 2024-33 naming the official newspaper of publication for the City of Walker and Resolution 2024-34 updating the city’s purchasing policy. The council also approved Resolution 2024-35 to transfer funds and close out Fund 113 (Emergency Fund), and Resolution 2024-36 to close Fund 305 (Greene Street Water Main Project). The council adopted Resolution 2024-37 approving fund transfers related to a road project completed in August 2024. Votes were recorded as four ayes with Councilmember Jonathan Wolff absent for roll calls.
Sewer connection terms: The council approved terms allowing Ridge Haven/Cono to connect sewer to Walker’s wastewater treatment facility. The approved financial arrangement sets a $1,500 monthly minimum for the first 150,000 gallons and a rate of $100 for each additional 10,000 gallons. The motion passed on a Nielsen/Glenn motion (4 ayes, 1 absent).
Equipment and site actions: Bids for a 2013 Bobcat skid loader were opened; one bid from Russ Gager for $32,010 was accepted (motion Nielsen/Dunn). The council authorized renting a bulldozer for one week at a cost of $3,500 to clean up the brush site. Council also approved replacing mayor/council tablets as needed and asked staff to gather information on a potential phone reimbursement for the mayor for discussion at the October meeting. Councilmember Kyle Glenn offered to donate a camera system for the brush site pending electrical work.
Other approvals: The council permitted the local little league to replace foul poles and repair rotting timbers on a ballpark flower bed after Rozena McVey raised the items in open forum; the motion to allow the repairs passed unanimously among those present.
