Briefs: Wahpeton accepts Board of Adjustment resignation; landfill adds cardboard recycling; council fundraising work continues

At its Feb. 10 meeting the Wahpeton City Council accepted the resignation of Doug Westerman from the Wahpeton Board of Adjustment; the motion to accept was made by Holly Mead, seconded by Merlyn Kruger and passed unanimously.
City Clerk/Administrator Carrie Funk reported that Dickinson County Landfill (owned by Waste Management) now provides a cardboard-only recycling container onsite Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The announcement came during the clerk’s report and was listed in the meeting materials.
Councilmember Holly Mead told the council an ad hoc committee has formed to raise the remainder of funds needed for the tennis/pickleball court project. Councilmember Tom Rierson also asked that the council revisit allocations of hotel/motel tax funding to non-profits — he asked that the Lakewood Park Association funding be reconsidered at the March 10 meeting.
Next steps: Staff will process the accepted resignation per board procedures; the clerk will proceed with any public notices related to recycling and the council will consider the hotel/motel tax item on March 10.
