Greene City Council approves budget amendment, sets hearings and reappoints board members

The Greene City Council on Feb. 9 approved Resolution 2026-01 amending the fiscal 2025-26 budget and set multiple public hearings and appointments ahead of the next budget cycle.

Mayor Galen Lindell presided over the meeting at the Greene Community Center. The council voted unanimously among members present to adopt the budget amendment after a public hearing that produced no written or oral comments. The resolution was moved by Vicky Malfero and seconded by Audrey Smith; roll call recorded Ayes from Malfero, Smith, Rodney Fesenmeyer and Brian Uhlenhopp; Al Zweck was absent.

The council also set a public hearing to consider disposal of city property at 12 High School Blvd. (motion by Audrey Smith, seconded by Vicky Malfero) and scheduled a public hearing on the proposed tax rate for the 2026-27 budget for April 13, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. (motion by Vicky Malfero, seconded by Rodney Fesenmeyer). Both motions carried on roll calls of four Ayes and one absence.

Council members reviewed a list of capital and maintenance items under consideration for the 2026-27 budget, including seal coating, street lights, annual water tower maintenance, manhole lining and main lining, lift station control work, a park mower and a skid loader intended for cemetery and other city uses. No final appropriations were adopted for the next fiscal year at this meeting; those matters will be considered during the budget process and at the scheduled tax-rate hearing.

Mayor Lindell reappointed Terry Thomason and Bev Christensen to the Community Center Board and Andrea Ramker and Pat Derdzinski to the Library Board; the appointments were approved by motion. The mayor also told the council he had spoken with Isaac from AMS Memorial, who reported the business has obtained required approvals and will proceed with hiring, orientation and supplies before opening.
