Greene council adopts budget amendment, appoints firefighters and authorizes demolition steps

At its May 11 special session the Greene City Council adopted Resolution 2026-06 amending the 2025–26 budget, approved six appointments to the fire department, authorized the city attorney to pursue demolition under the Dangerous Building code for 206 N 3rd Street, and approved event permits and other routine motions. All recorded roll calls were 4–0 with one absentee.
The Greene City Council approved several formal actions during its May 11 special session in a series of roll-call votes. All recorded votes showed Ayes from Vicky Malfero, Audrey Smith, Rodney Fesenmeyer and Al Zweck; Brian Uhlenhopp was absent for the session.
The council adopted Resolution 2026-06 to amend the fiscal-year 2025–2026 budget after opening and immediately closing a public hearing with no public comments.
The council approved appointments to the fire department for Jason Benson, Tyler Ellefritz, Jordan Batey, Wyatt Parcher, Drew Engel and Addison Benson.
Following an update from the mayor about 206 N 3rd Street and a response indicating a nearby neighbor would like to see the house demolished, the council voted to have the city attorney proceed under the Dangerous Building and right-to-demolish provisions of the city code.
Council also approved the Greene Jaycee liquor license and road closures for Ely (June 17–21) and N 1st Street (June 19–21), with the city to pay for porta-potties; voted to change the June meeting start time to 4:30 p.m.; and approved claims for payment. The council adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
All motions listed above carried with the recorded aye votes of Malfero, Smith, Fesenmeyer and Zweck and with Uhlenhopp recorded as absent.
