Lakefield council approves CPR instructor certification for ambulance staff

The Lakefield City Council on Feb. 17 approved payment for two ambulance employees to obtain CPR instructor certification, a move city officials said will let the ambulance service host local recertification classes for seasonal staff.
Elsie Kruger, Lakefield Ambulance Director, requested that she and Katie Johnson be allowed to complete CPR instructor training. Kruger told the council the ambulance currently outsources CPR renewals, that the Lakefield ambulance owns the necessary materials and equipment, and that having certified instructors on staff would help with scheduling classes for lifeguards and concession workers.
City Clerk Holly Rademacher said local certification would benefit seasonal employees by making training more timely and accessible. Police Officer Edith Behr noted she will be renewing her CPR instructor certification in March as well.
On a motion by Councilmember Heather Hussong-Reasoner, seconded by Councilmember Jeff Paplow, the council approved payment of $180 per person for the two employees (total $360). The motion carried with all members present voting in favor.
The council did not add conditions to the funding; the training is to proceed under the ambulance department’s oversight.
