Council approves trial MOU allowing Hockey Association to run arena programs through April

Moose Lake — The Moose Lake City Council voted March 12 to approve a memorandum of understanding with the Moose Lake Area Hockey Association to run a trial extension of arena operations from March 1 through April 30, 2025.
The MOU supplements the existing lease and would let the association test revenue-generating activities such as selling ice time and running camps while providing volunteers for ice maintenance and building cleaning. "We have a huge demand and we have got a lot of people that are willing to do camps here," Mike Gilliam (speaker 9) told council. "I've got most of April booked already if you allow us to have the ice."
Council members said the park board had been consulted by email while there was no March park-board meeting, and staff said a majority of park-board members responded in favor. The MOU was presented as a trial to determine demand; if successful, staff indicated similar arrangements might be pursued in the fall or subsequent years.
The motion to accept the MOU carried on voice vote. Staff said the agreement is time-limited and would be reassessed after the trial period.
