Council members highlight sales tax trends, library exhibit, airport maintenance and parks programming

Councilman Ben Garrison encouraged residents to review the city’s operating statement posted online and said sales and use tax revenues from online sales continue to rise. He also noted the formation of a new hospital executive committee that will meet monthly.
President Pro Tem Otis Hill reported that Eufaula High School’s baseball season begins Feb. 21 and that the school system is encouraging parents and guardians to complete the Alabama School Climate Surveys. He also announced the Eufaula Carnegie Library’s public unveiling of an authenticated Picasso linocut on March 12, 2026, and noted library yoga classes every Thursday.
Councilman James Bailey said the Airport Advisory Committee is working on a strategic plan, that trees are being trimmed near the runway, and that the Chamber of Commerce is holding networking and membership events later in February. He also reported Parks & Recreation is conducting girls softball tryouts, revising codes of conduct for players and parents, and is seeking umpires for the March 21 opening day.
Councilman Marvin Brown thanked Public Works for guardrail completion and provided department activity totals for Feb. 2–13, 2026 (24 bales of cardboard recycled; 36 work orders completed; 139 bags of litter collected; 84 tons of trash collected; 95 tons of garbage collected). Tim Brannon reported crews are addressing excessive illegal dumping in residential areas.
President Register relayed Police Chief Danny Christ’s 2025 statistics: 9,010 total 911 calls and 36,689 total service calls. Fire Chief Ryan Feggins had no updates.
