Mayor Jack B. Tibbs Jr. told the Eufaula City Council on Feb. 17 that the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) has approved partial demolition for the Lake Eufaula Motor Lodge under an existing grant and that the city plans to apply for a follow‑up ADECA demolition grant.
Tibbs said the city received notice of two grants to support local healthcare equipment: a $500,000 award for hospital equipment secured through Senator Britt and a $350,000 award for an MRI machine secured through Representative Shomari Figures. The mayor commended Code Enforcement Officer Jason Trahan for his role in the demolition work carried out under the current grant.
The mayor also described an infrastructure project on U.S. Highway 431 near the monument, which could begin in August 2026 and would include roadway repairs, traffic signal changes and relocating the statue roughly 450 feet. Tibbs said Ellianos Coffee expects a grand opening by the end of February.
On local economic development, Tibbs reported that American EV is moving forward with renovations and will need to build an assembly line before manufacturing begins in late 2026. He also announced the appointment of Jennifer Korey to the Historic Preservation Commission.
The mayor’s updates were delivered as part of the regular Mayor’s Report; no formal council action was recorded on the grant announcements at this meeting.
