City of Lismore council approves routine business, OKs fire applicant and chicken permit; delays road sealing decision

The City of Lismore council met March 10, 2025, and approved routine business including the agenda, minutes from Feb. 10 and the monthly financial statement. Mayor Andrew Fodness called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Amber Bertrand, City Clerk, presented the financial statement and the council voted to pay invoices and make the stated transfers. The council also approved the maintenance and clerks reports and took several personnel and permit actions.
During the maintenance report, Josh (maintenance) said he had discussed piggybacking with the county to carry out chip sealing on several streets and brought a map highlighting the worst sections. He noted the county will be working on County Road 16 in 2026, and that waiting until then could yield a better price. Councilmembers tabled a decision on chip sealing until the city receives a vendor quote to compare costs. Spring clean-up was set for Monday, April 28, 2025. A plumbing estimate from McClure Plumbing for $5,021.89 to repair a hole in the truck-shed heating system proved unnecessary after staff inspection determined the mark was cosmetic; no repair was made. Josh reported he had taken the wastewater exam and would know results in a few weeks.
On personnel matters, the council approved the application of Austin Henning to join the fire department after the sheriff's background check returned clear. Amber Bertrand said she would notify Fire Chief Jim of the action.
In the clerk's report, Bertrand said the city received a letter from City Attorney Kayla Johnson stating she would stop practicing law after being appointed as a district judge; the council voted to continue contracting legal services with the firm Smith & Johnson. Rebecca of Kinner & Co. will perform the forthcoming audit, Bertrand said.
The council approved a chicken permit application from resident Andreynna Santana; Amber will verify the coop size and advise the applicant. Officials also recorded that signs for a land sale will be posted once weather permits and reminded the public that the Local Board of Appeal and Equalization will meet April 24, 2025 at 2:30 p.m.
With no further business, the council adjourned. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 7, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.
