Residents urge flexible science requirements and suggest naming theater to honor longtime director

During the meeting’s two public‑comment periods, community members raised a range of items for board attention.

Lila Neary (Cherry Hill) asked the board to review the district’s physics graduation requirement and consider offering an advanced biology option so that students with math disabilities would have a less math‑intensive science elective. "For some students, a physics class can be really challenging, especially students who have a math disability… it can either make or break a student's GPA in their junior year," she said.

Several speakers continued to press the board on budget transparency and the planned capital‑reserve actions (covered in a separate article). Alana Yaris requested that materials read into the record be included in board documents and asked that summer bond‑project presentations be posted somewhere accessible beyond archived meeting video. Dr. Yoni Yaris suggested the district consider naming part of the renovated East theater (stage or auditorium) in memory of Tom Weaver, who led the East theater program for decades, if Weaver’s family consents.

Board members thanked community members for their input and noted the items raised — the physics‑requirement question will be referred to the appropriate curriculum committee for consideration and the naming suggestion will be discussed with administration.
