Mentone council adopts salary ordinance, revises handbook and awards roadway contract

The Town of Mentone Council voted Feb. 4 to adopt Salary Ordinance 26-488 and approve Resolution 2026-05, which adopts a revised employee handbook.
Shelly Kruger moved to adopt the 2026 salary ordinance; Jill Gross seconded and the motion carried. Shelly Kruger later moved to approve Resolution 2026-05 adopting the revised employee handbook; Jill Gross seconded and the motion carried.
The council also voted to award the 2026 Roadway Improvements Project to Gaunt & Son Asphalt based on a recommendation from Emens Engineering that Gaunt & Son was the lowest responsive bidder following the Jan. 26 bid opening. Shelly Kruger moved to award the contract; Jill Gross seconded and the motion carried. Jill Gross was authorized to execute the Gaunt & Son agreement and sign the Notification of Contractor Award letter and to request CCMG funds.
Council members approved several funding-commitment and application actions related to park improvements and grants. Timothy Croy moved to allow Jill Gross to sign the Financial Commitment Letter for Park Improvements Phase 2; Shelly Kruger seconded and the motion carried. The council also approved submitting a Letter of Intent to the Community Foundation for a $20,000 grant and authorized an application submission. Jill Gross moved to allow Amanda Yaprak to work with IHCDA’s CreatINg Places program on a crowdfunding campaign with a $50,000 goal; Shelly Kruger seconded and the motion carried.
On procurement and payments, the council approved a $625 quote from Graycraft Signs to add graphics to the Police Department’s outfitted Explorer and approved claims presented at the meeting.
The council set its next meeting for March 4, 2026, at 6:30 PM and adjourned at 7:15 PM.
