Harmony EDA approves $2,500 toward downtown wayfinding signage

Erica Thilges, a Harmony Area Chamber board member, presented renderings and details for the signage and told the board the project had been designed to MnDOT specifications and reviewed by MnDOT right-of-way staff. Thilges requested the EDA consider a $2,500 contribution toward an estimated total project cost of about $13,500; she said the chamber had raised $3,000 in private donations to date and planned to seek additional support from other organizations.
Board members discussed using funds from the EDA’s marketing budget to support the project and praised the chamber’s recent December events. Steve Donney moved to approve the $2,500 contribution, Greg Schieber seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
Chris Giesen, an EDA staff member, told the board the signage’s contents and siting near state highways are subject to MnDOT control and that the project team had worked with MnDOT staff on specifications and placement. The board thanked Thilges and the project committee for their work and directed staff to process the contribution.
The motion’s approval was recorded as unanimous; the minutes do not list individual vote tallies. The EDA will provide funds from its marketing budget to support the downtown wayfinding project and follow up with the chamber as the project proceeds.
