At its June 2 meeting the Mesabi East School Board approved several personnel actions and recorded one failed personnel motion.
The board accepted the resignation of Jarod Ruotsalainen as assistant girls basketball coach, effective immediately; the motion was moved by Director LaFrenier and seconded by Director Adams. It also approved Kari Hunt as Payroll and Benefits Manager (Step 0), effective June 16, 2025, on a motion from Director LaFrenier and a second from Director Baudhuin. The board approved a Behavior Interventionist contract with Michelle Metzig covering the 2024–2026 school years after a motion from Director Baudhuin and a second from Director LaFrenier. The board accepted the retirement of school nurse Shelly Whiting, effective June 30, 2025, with appreciation for her service.
A motion to approve a leave of absence for an employee for the 2025–2026 school year — moved by Director LaFrenier and seconded by Director Undeland — failed. The minutes record no ayes and list Directors Adams, Baudhuin, LaFrenier and Undeland as Nayes; the minutes do not specify the employee's name or reason for the leave request.
The minutes do not provide contract salary or step details beyond the hire step for the payroll manager; the board recorded personnel actions as motions with standard appreciation language where applicable.
