Fair planning, fire radios, Wild Horse water and road-use concerns surface at Cheyenne County meeting

Lengel also noted legal changes affecting transportation of box turtles. Lengel left the meeting at 9:51 a.m.
On equipment, the Cheyenne Wells Fire Department requested the county support buying 10 refurbished radios rather than a split order; Commissioner R.J. Jolly moved, with a second from Commissioner Rick Pelton, to support purchasing 10 refurbished radios. The motion passed; the minutes do not list vote tallies or funding sources.
The board discussed the Wild Horse water system, which is supplied by a private well that serves the post office, the school building and nearby homes. Commissioners discussed the possibility of the county taking over management; Commissioner Jolly said he would contact George Kemp and the County Attorney to determine next steps.
The board also discussed potential changes to the Road Use Agreement for the Dry Land Prairie Energy Storage project and removal of pedestals at the Goose Creek Substation. The board said communications received so far referenced a single pedestal; because the county is in the beginning stages of building a county road in the right-of-way, that pedestal would need to be moved. The board will draft a proposal, gather photos and send the materials to County Attorney Kelly Lowery for review.
