Quartzsite directs staff to finalize one-time lease-payment deal with American Tower

The Town of Quartzsite council discussed an offer from American Tower on June 23 to change the structure of lease payments for the existing cell tower north of the wastewater treatment facility. Staff said the offer involves an advance payment on the lease rather than sale of the land and would not change the tower's location, frequency rights or the town's ownership of the asset at lease end.
Because the proposal raised legal and negotiation questions, the council recessed to an executive session to consult with staff and legal advisors. After returning to open session, the council moved, seconded and directed staff to finalize a contract with American Tower accepting the one-time payment offer and establishing the final mutually accepted terms.
Council members emphasized that the transaction is a change in payment structure only and that at the end of the full lease term the town still owns the asset. The motion carried and staff will proceed with finalizing the agreement consistent with council direction.
