The Quartzsite Common Council voted June 23 to authorize the town manager to issue a request for qualifications for on-call apiary services to handle bee removal and related needs on town property.
Staff said the procurement will establish a roster of qualified providers for emergency or scheduled bee management on town-owned sites and clarified the service is for town property only, not private yards. "So I'm asking for your permission to proceed with a request for qualifications for on-call apiary services," staff said during the meeting.
Council and public participants discussed budget implications; staff said funds would come from existing grounds/maintenance accounts and that the town does not expect frequent calls but wants a fair, transparent procurement process.
The council approved the motion to authorize the town manager to proceed; the motion carried by voice vote.
