The Le Sueur-Henderson School Board unanimously adopted a fiscal year 2026 10-year Long-Term Facilities Maintenance (LTFM) plan at a July 15 special meeting, and discussed prioritizing energy-saving upgrades such as LED lighting for high-use spaces.
Board members said the LTFM program — a recurring funding stream districts have had since 2015 — is intended for larger maintenance projects that are difficult to finance from annual operating budgets. The board cited Park Elementary as an earlier priority and noted the plan includes projected needs for the new elementary building and the high school over the next decade.
The plan was submitted to meet state requirements and can be amended in future years, a presenter said. Board members asked staff about a projected dip in per-pupil funding shown in the plan for 2026–2027; staff explained the state bases projections on enrollment and demographic trends and that those numbers can change with actual enrollment.
District staff described routine preventive maintenance practices — regular roof inspections, boilers and HVAC checks, and use of specialized vendors for different systems — to identify problems early and avoid full replacements. Staff also raised a proposal to convert auditorium and gymnasium fixtures to LED, noting those spaces are on many hours per day and offer greater utility savings than immediate classroom replacements, which may be done room-by-room.
The board approved a resolution adopting the district's fiscal year 2026 LTFM 10-year plan. Director Burns moved the measure; Director Cross seconded. A roll-call vote was taken and recorded as unanimous in favor, and the resolution was declared adopted.
Board members also discussed documenting the vote and member names in the minutes; district staff will record who voted in the official minutes. The board noted that some LTFM funds can be carried forward if not spent, and that planned projects will be prioritized in later budget work.
The board moved next to a closed session for an evaluation and did not take further public action on facilities at the meeting.
