Hogansville to seek quotes to remove dead pecan tree at Askew Park after council concern

Hogansville city staff told the council that multiple aged pecan trees at Askew Park are shedding large limbs and present safety and maintenance concerns. One tree near the Hipp parking lot and a neighboring residence is dead and was described as requiring urgent removal.
City Manager Lisa E. Kelly estimated the cost to remove the dead tree at roughly $6,000 and said the park plan anticipates eventual removal and replanting with intentional design to preserve aesthetics. Council members agreed the city manager should obtain quotes and proceed with removal of the dead tree.
Staff said replanting would be considered later as part of the park plan. The council did not vote to expend funds during the work session; staff was authorized to solicit quotes and return with procurement details.
