Neighbor asks Independence council to consider saving old city hall; council suggests inspection

Spencer said staff reported mold problems in the building and proposed a masked site visit so council members could assess what might be salvageable.
"Before we have an official response to this, maybe we look at it together," Spencer said, proposing a site inspection. Councilor Betts suggested bringing a mold specialist to the visit. Councilor McCoy separately raised a maintenance concern about a strip along County Road 90 that has not been maintained since the roundabout work and asked Public Works to address it.
The council did not direct staff to begin a formal preservation process or allocate funds at the meeting; members discussed inspecting the building and obtaining expert advice before deciding on next steps.
