Resident urges Jackson to study municipal cannabis retail to capture Interstate 90 traffic

Skow said that because neighboring states (Iowa and South Dakota) have not authorized retail cannabis sales, a store in Jackson could attract highway and out-of-state customers. He cited early Minnesota retail averages, saying retail cannabis stores in Minnesota are "generating, on average, $86,000 a month" in their first five months of sales. Skow recommended the City consider a study similar to one underway in Fairmont and suggested the municipal liquor store site as a possible location. He also encouraged councilmembers to review Anoka’s municipal retail experience or request a tour.
The comment was made as an unscheduled Open Forum appearance; the minutes record no council response or direction to staff on the subject during this meeting.
