New Bremen reviews Plum Street reconstruction funding, pool reopening and winter power credits

Village Administrator Richter provided several operational and project updates at the May 22 New Bremen Village Council meeting.
Richter told council members the village received Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) funding for Plum Street reconstruction consisting of a $500,000 grant, a $1,089,744 loan at 0% interest, and an estimated $2,023,311 local share based on the engineer's estimate. Council held first reading of Resolution 2023‑05‑10 declaring the necessity to repair sidewalks, curbs, gutters and driveway approaches on parts of South Eastmoor Drive, East Plum Street and Park Street. The resolution remained at first reading; no vote to adopt was recorded.
Richter also reported that record low temperatures on December 23–24, 2022 caused shortfalls in generation at some power plants; Prairie State, Fremont and Hydro plants supplied additional generation and the village will receive credits on the AMP invoice for nine months. The village’s pool liner was repaired by Cotterman Roofing; the pool will be refilled and is scheduled to open Saturday, May 27. The splash pad is already open for the season.
Officials announced a resident public meeting on May 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Lockkeepers House to review the SR 274 curb‑and‑gutter project, scheduled to begin after July 4. Mayor Robert D. Parker presented Head Volleyball Coach Diana Kramer and Head Football Coach Chris Schmidt with a mayoral proclamation recognizing the Fall 2022 state championships and praised students’ teamwork and community spirit.
Council heard first reading of Resolution 2023‑05‑09 concerning the village’s annual property, vehicle and equipment insurance renewal; staff said Stolly Insurance is awaiting renewal rates and further updates will be provided at the second reading.
