The New Bremen Village Council voted unanimously May 22 to approve the purchase of an Anixter Tantalus overlay for $431,942.50 to upgrade the village’s meter‑reading system.
The council approved Resolution 2023‑04‑06 on its third reading (motion by Burnell; second by Lomakin; six ayes). The contract authorizes a system overlay intended to send live water and electric meter reads to the utility office, notify staff of power outages, allow remote disconnects for nonpayment and perform final reads without staff driving house to house. The village plans to begin with a minimum number of meters needed to enable live reads and to buy additional disconnect‑capable meters as funds become available. The system will connect to the village fiber ring and the village will work with Reliable to place a server in house.
Village documents recorded in the meeting show the Anixter bid was the single sealed bid received for the Tantalus overlay, priced at $431,942.50. The agenda item was presented by Village Administrator Richter and carried by the full council.

The council also discussed the meter‑system procurement process and indicated the initial purchase is an overlay rather than a full meter replacement; no amendments were reported at the meeting. The council adjourned at 6:50 p.m.
