At its June 22 meeting the Bird Island'Olivia'Lake Lillian school board adopted a resolution setting the affidavit-of-candidacy filing period for school-board offices from July 14 to July 28, 2026, with a $2 filing fee and the general election set for Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026.
Chair Greg Ple read the resolution and Mary Alex Klouse (board clerk) was authorized to publish and post the filing notice as required under Minnesota law.
The board also approved a slate of policy readings and several policy adoptions (including final readings for policy 502 on searches and approvals for policies 203.2, 203.5, 521/521.1 nondiscrimination, 701 budget adoption and 807 health and safety). Several other policies were presented for first readings, including veterans preference (405), overdose medication (516.5) and internet/cellphone acceptable use (524), with additional committee work expected.
Administrative items approved included designation of the Red County Register as the district's official newspaper for 2026'27; authorization for the business manager and superintendent to sign activity-account contracts; and approval of student activity fees and theater admission rates. Board discussion clarified that the new activity-fee structure establishes a $400 family maximum out-of-pocket across activities and that fees are intended to offset, not fully cover, program costs.
The board adopted a resolution accepting a $500 donation from Vernon and Helen (last name unclear in the transcript) to the Bold High School robotics team and passed a separate resolution recognizing district students and teams who advanced to state competitions (noting the softball team's third-place finish and named all-tournament players Abby King and Caitlyn Fland; also recognizing a student who placed in the state track meet and the robotics team's state competition).
