Long Prairie council agrees to continue talks with MN Fresh and Long Prairie Packing on utilities and lift-station options

The Long Prairie City Council on Nov. 4 authorized staff to continue conversations with MN Fresh about extending city sanitary sewer and water services to the MN Fresh site and to continue talks with Long Prairie Packing about the future and costs of an old lift station located nearby.
Mayor David Wright made both motions; the MN Fresh motion was seconded by Council member Lilah Gripne and the lift-station motion was seconded by Council member Jim Kreemer. Both motions were approved unanimously.
City Engineer Kent Louwagie had earlier presented cost estimates for extending utilities, and council members asked staff to pursue additional detail and continue negotiations. The council did not adopt a funding commitment or project timeline at the meeting; the approvals were to continue discussions and refine cost and ownership options.
Council also discussed the potential for Long Prairie Packing to assume ownership or responsibility for the old lift station, but there was no final transfer or agreement; council direction was limited to further conversations and information gathering.
