The Manhattan Beach City Council voted 5-0 Tuesday to approve its meeting agenda and then recessed into closed session to meet with labor negotiators under Government Code section 54957.6, City Attorney Barow said.
Mayor Pro Tem Nina Tarne moved to approve the agenda; Council Member Steve Shiralian seconded. “Motion passes 5-0,” the clerk announced after the roll call showed all five members present.
The council opened the public-comment period under agenda item E and said each speaker would have three minutes, but no one spoke in the chamber. The clerk noted, “No requests on Zoom,” and the council closed public comments.
City Attorney Barow then announced the closed session: “Pursuant to Government Code section 54957.6 the City Council will now go into closed session to have a conference with its labor negotiators with respect to the employee groups identified on the agenda,” he said. The council recessed into closed session immediately afterward.
No substantive labor negotiations or policy actions were taken in the open meeting; any deliberations on those matters will occur in the closed session and are exempt from public disclosure under the cited code section.
