The Long Prairie City Council handled a series of routine and administrative items on Dec. 10, approving a franchise agreement, fiscal policy, labor contracts and insurance renewals.
Key outcomes included unanimous approval of a franchise agreement with Charter Communications and direction to contact CTC about a comparable agreement; adoption of a Fund Balance Policy designed to support Moody ratings; and approval of an 8.16% increase in the city’s employee health insurance renewal rates. The council also approved the negotiated Long Prairie Police Officers Labor Agreement (effective Jan. 1, 2026–Dec. 31, 2028) and the Public Works Unit Labor Agreement for the same period.
Council approved a 4% wage increase for non-union staff effective Jan. 1, 2026 and tabled other individual non-union increase requests and a specific probation discussion for one employee. Council also tabled consideration of creating a Fire Department application process until June 2026. The meeting opened and closed other routine items including attestation of meeting minutes and a resolution acknowledging November donations.
