Long Prairie council approves sweeper purchase, Lions Club premises permit and new hires; police hire passes on 3-2 vote

Council reviewed two bids for a budgeted 2026 Pelican street sweeper (Bell Equipment $333,564; MacQueen state contract $323,743). After applying a $78,760 trade-in credit and noting tariff savings, Council Member Clint Krueger moved to purchase the MacQueen unit for a net price of $244,983; the motion passed unanimously.
The council adopted Resolution No. 25-11-26-42 to permit the Lions Club of Long Prairie to conduct charitable gambling at Edita’s Bar and Grill (262 Central Ave) contingent on the Minnesota Gambling Control Board issuing the LG214 premises permit. Mayor Jim Kreemer moved to approve the resolution; the motion passed unanimously.
Fire Chief Dan Laumeyer proposed hiring Mario Andrade and Camden Terwey after internal interviews and background checks; the council approved the hires, noting the department will increase to 21 employees with capacity to expand further.
On the police hire, discussion centered on filling the sixth officer position to replace Trevor Larson. The city received one applicant, part-time officer Daniel Stueck, who completed FTO training. Council Member JoAnn Schroeder moved to hire Daniel Stueck as a full-time police officer effective Dec. 6. The roll-call vote was Perez—Yes, Kreemer—No, Gripne—No, Krueger—Yes and Schroeder—Yes; the motion passed 3–2.
Council Member JoAnn Schroeder earlier moved to approve the consent calendar, which the council approved unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 8:52 p.m.
