Board honors longtime member and student board members as school year ends
Summary
The Olean board presented a NYSSBA Lifetime Achievement Award to Mary Hershina, recognized tenure and service of staff including Scott Wisinski and Cindy Rhodes, and heard reflections from outgoing student board members Olivia and Ava.
The board took time June 23 to acknowledge several people who contributed to the district this year.
Mary Hershina received the New York State School Boards Association Lifetime Achievement Award; trustees praised her policy work and service to district grounds projects. The board presented a plaque and posed for photographs.
The board recognized two tenured teachers—Scott Wisinski, an eighth-grade technology teacher at Olean High School who also advises the National Honor Society—and Cindy Rhodes, the districtfamily engagement counselor credited with organizing orientations, summer registration events and community-partnered programs such as dental clinics and a backpack program.
Outgoing student board members Olivia and Ava reflected on their experience, describing growth in public speaking and a deeper appreciation of district processes. The board thanked them, announced their successors (Nina Chaudry and Simran Chahal) will be sworn in in September after summer training, and presented tokens of appreciation to the departing student members.
