The Long Prairie City Council voted on Nov. 26 to pursue Local Road Improvement Program (LRIP) grants from the Minnesota Department of Transportation for two major street reconstruction projects.
Resolution No. 25-11-26-40 authorizes pursuit of LRIP funding for reconstruction of 1st Street South, 8th Avenue South and Lake Charlotte Road to a 10-ton standard, including paving an unpaved gravel segment on 1st Street South. The resolution notes the route’s regional economic role and that LRIP grants can provide up to $1.5 million; because Long Prairie is not a State Aid city, the LRIP application requires a county sponsor, and the council directed staff to seek sponsorship from Todd County. Mayor Jim Kreemer moved to approve the resolution; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
Resolution No. 25-11-26-41 authorizes pursuit of LRIP funding for reconstruction of 9th Street NE (Highway 27 to County Road 5) to a 10-ton design standard and includes storm-sewer upgrades and ADA-compliant sidewalks and crossings. The council similarly authorized staff to prepare and submit the LRIP application and to seek Todd County sponsorship; the motion was approved unanimously.
Both resolutions identify 2027 as the proposed year for construction and require staff to prepare applications and documentation. The council provided assurance that the city will pay costs not eligible for LRIP funding and will meet LRIP schedule and reporting requirements.
