Long Prairie council approves higher EDA payment in 3–2 vote after chamber requests raise

The Long Prairie City Council on Dec. 10 approved an increase to the Community Development Services agreement between the Long Prairie Economic Development Authority (LPEDA) and the Long Prairie Area Chamber (LPACC), raising the 2026 payment to $45,000.
Denita Wisniewski of the chamber told council the chamber’s requested increase reflected a request from the current EDA director for higher wages and that the contracted city support covers roughly 20 hours per week of executive-level EDA services. Council members noted the contracted monthly payments have risen since 2019 (from about $1,650 per month to the chamber’s current request of $3,542/month); the chamber’s 2025 contracted total was $32,000 and had requested $42,500 for 2026. The council chose to approve $45,000 instead.
Council Member Clint Krueger moved to increase the payment to $45,000; Council Member JoAnn Schroeder seconded. Roll-call: Perez — Yes; Kreemer — No; Gripne — No; Schroeder — Yes; Krueger — Yes. The motion carried 3–2.
Council members did not attach specific conditions to the increase in the motion recorded; the funding will be paid from the city general fund as part of the 2026 budget process.
