Perry City Council on April 7 approved a request to provide a letter of support for a proposed expansion of Commodore Manor that would add eight affordable units and allow the developer to pursue low-income housing tax credits through the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.
Mr. Duffy described the project as seeking state tax-credit funding and said the developer would still have to complete a competitive, rigorous application process. If awarded credits and constructed, the project would add eight units and "restart the 15-year affordable limits applied to rent for residents within," he said.
Council members said they had seen detailed explanations during the work session and voted unanimously to provide the requested letter of support.
Staff said any further steps, including the grant or tax-credit application and subsequent construction, would return to council as required and would be subject to state application rules and local permitting.
