County approves ambulance contract, 911 hires and creates jailer positions pending funding

The Dubois County Commissioners on Aug. 5 approved several public-safety personnel and services items, including an ambulance contract, 911 staffing and corrections positions.
County Attorney Gregory S. Schnarr and Commissioner Chad A. Blessinger presented a contract with Deaconess EMS, LLC; the board approved the agreement as presented by motion and carried the motion unanimously.
911 Director Stuart Wilson presented two applicants, Kennedy Weyer and Miyah Moran, for hire as 911 dispatchers with start dates of Aug. 12, 2024; the commissioners unanimously approved both hires. Wilson also reported the department plans to move into a new 911 center on Aug. 22, 2024 and said he will hire a shift supervisor from within the department after the move.
Sheriff Tom Kleinhelter requested creation of four jailer positions with wage classification CPOLE III; the commissioners approved creating four jailer positions unanimously, with the approval contingent on County Council funding. Auditor Sandra L. Morton reported a discrepancy in the Northeast Dubois School Resource Officer wage classification and requested changing it from CPOLE III to CPOLE V; the commissioners approved the requested classification change unanimously.
