Jurupa Unified board adopts 2026-27 LCAP, federal addendum, school plans and budget

The Jurupa Unified Board of Education on June 23 approved the district's 2026-27 Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) federal addendum, school site plans for student achievement and the district's general and special funds budget. Each item passed by a 5-0 vote.
Daniel Brooks, a staff advisor, told the board the LCAP is the district's comprehensive plan for the coming school year and noted state law requires boards to consider and approve the LCAP before July 1, after a public review period and hearing. "State law again does require that the LCAP be considered and ultimately approved by the board before July 1st of each year," Brooks said. He said the district's local indicators self-reflection shows the district is meeting required areas and results will appear on the state dashboard in the fall.
The board also approved the ESSA federal addendum, which Brooks said outlines how Title I, II, III and IV funds will be used in accordance with the LCAP and federal requirements. "This is the part of the district's strategic plan ... that outlines specifically how all of the federal funds that we received ... will be used in accordance with the LCAP plan and of course in accordance with the federal requirements," he said.
Trustees reviewed and approved each school's Single Plan for Student Achievement (SIPSA), described by Brooks as site-level strategic plans that detail actions to support student outcomes. Paula Ford, a staff advisor, presented the proposed general and special funds budget, noting it had been brought to the board for a public hearing on June 16 and "there have not been any comments or any changes to the budget since that time." She said the budget must be adopted before July 1 for state submission; the board adopted it unanimously.
Board members offered brief remarks recognizing staff work over the school year. Trustee Raquel Ortiz Cornejo praised intramural sports and urged families to consult district resources: "My heart is filled every time I hear comments and I see all the activities that are happening," she said. Dr. Trent Hansen thanked the board and staff for the year's work as the meeting closed. President Melissa Riegel adjourned the meeting and announced the next regular meeting for July 28, 2026.
