The Dublin City Council on May 16 authorized a $46,000 contribution to the Middle Georgia State University Foundation to convert tennis courts on the university campus into pickleball courts available to the public.
Mr. Powell told the council the conversion and lighting work would create six courts and open them to the public ahead of demolition and reconstruction of existing courts at Hillburn Park. Staff said the university would pay for the conversion work and lighting and that the city’s contribution to the university foundation would make the facilities available to residents. Councilman Smith moved the approval and Councilman Godfrey seconded; the motion passed by voice vote.
Staff contrasted this arrangement with an existing indoor facility managed via the Dublin Pickleball Association’s key-card access and said the university model had been successful at other campuses. Implementation responsibility was assigned to Parks and Recreation.
