Milaca council approves lease amendment, $500 donation to Rec Fest and supports Eagle Scout projects

The Milaca City Council on Aug. 15 approved multiple community and facility items, including a lease amendment, event funding and support for Eagle Scout projects.

Council approved a First Amendment to the lease between the City of Milaca and Fairview Health Services; City Manager Tammy Pfaff said the tenant would now be North Memorial and the lease would be adjusted accordingly. Laurie Gahm moved the amendment and Norris Johnson seconded the motion; the vote was unanimous.

Using the city’s gambling fund, the council voted to donate $500 to Milaca Rec Fest & Activities to support music at the Milaca Country Fest and Jam in September. Councilor Gahm proposed the donation and Councilor Johnson seconded; the minutes show the council favored the $500 amount rather than a larger request.

The council also approved a letter of support for ECE’s Grid Resilience Formula Grant Program, and agreed to back requests from two Eagle Scout candidates. Cody Nelson asked for help funding grills to be installed at Rec Park; the council approved covering any shortfall if donations fall short. Griffin Nelson requested permission to install a permanent, lockable fire pit at Trimble Park for American Legion flag retirement ceremonies; the council approved the project, including placement on a concrete base and a plaque noting the Eagle Scout project. Motions for these items passed unanimously.

The minutes record who will support the projects and that fundraising and American Legion contributions will cover most costs; the city agreed to cover remaining costs if necessary.
