Milaca council tables proposed limits on seasonal tarp-like structures in business districts

At its Aug. 15 meeting the Milaca City Council held first-reading discussion and then tabled two companion ordinances that would regulate seasonal tarp-like accessory structures in the city’s B‑1 and B‑2 business districts.
Councilor Norris Johnson led questions about the draft Ordinance #530 for the B‑1 district, saying the proposed 144-square-foot maximum might be too small for typical structures used by flower growers and greenhouses and suggesting larger sizes such as 10-by-16 or 10-by-20. City Manager Tammy Pfaff said impervious-coverage limits were a factor in the draft but acknowledged the size threshold could be revisited.
Following discussion, Johnson moved to table Ordinance #530 and send it back to Planning and Zoning; Laurie Gahm seconded. The council then agreed to table Ordinance #531 for the B‑2 district and have both ordinances considered together at the next Planning Commission review. Both tabling motions passed unanimously.
The minutes record the council’s direction to return the measures to the planning body for further consideration; no ordinance was adopted or amended at the meeting.
