Sanger City Council approves preliminary FY 2026–27 budget, continues wastewater emergency declaration and approves consent calendar items

Mayor Frank Gonzalez moved to approve the budget item (G‑3); Mayor Pro Tem Daniel Martinez seconded, and the motion carried with Mayor Gonzalez, Mayor Pro Tem Martinez, Council Member Michael Montelongo and Council Member Dolores Melendez recorded as voting in favor; Council Member Esmeralda Hurtado was absent.
On the Consent Calendar the Council, by motion of Mayor Pro Tem Martinez and seconded by Council Member Montelongo, approved the following items as recorded in the meeting minutes: approval of minutes of the regular council meeting held May 21, 2026; receipt of an update on emergency repairs at the wastewater treatment plant pursuant to Resolution No. 2026‑36 and a request to continue the declaration of emergency (transcript also references 2026‑401); renewal of contract for fire dispatch services with the County of Fresno EMS Communications Center; and resolutions accepting and approving the engineer's reports and setting public hearings for Sanger Landscaping and Lighting Maintenance Districts No. 1 and No. 2 with hearings set for August 6, 2026 (resolutions recorded as 2026‑41/421 and 2026‑43/44 in the transcript).
One member of the public spoke during the budget hearing. City Manager Nathan Olson, Park and Recreation Director Doug Bolton and Police Chief John Reynolds provided staff updates later in the meeting; Council members provided additional updates before adjourning at 8:02 p.m.
