Fairport trustees unanimously approve police contract and three capital projects

The Fairport Village Board unanimously approved a collective bargaining agreement with the Fairport Police Benevolent Association covering June 1, 2025, through May 31, 2029, during its June 22 work session, Mayor Damrath said. Trustees noted the agreement is retroactive to June 1, 2025.
The meeting also cleared several capital budget actions. The board approved a $40,000 budget amendment (H.3120.225) to fund replacement of three exterior glass/garage-style facades and doors at the police station, adding to an existing allocation so the project will cover all three bays rather than only the most deteriorated door. Trustees discussed material choice and confirmed aluminum will be used to avoid rust issues.
Separately, trustees authorized an $11,000 capital project (H.3410.245) to pay for critical software updates for fire department portable radios and truck systems; staff said the radios purchased in 2019 require updates and that the board agreed to postpone thermal imaging camera purchases by a year so funds could cover the software need. The board also approved a $20,000 capital amendment (H.1620.230) to address Village Hall exterior steps and railings by repairing concrete, applying an epoxy coating, and salvaging and refinishing railings when feasible.
Two formal resolutions moved to fund those projects from reserve accounts were adopted by unanimous vote; the clerk was directed to publish notice of the adoptions and abstracts within 10 days. Mayor Damrath said the resolutions are subject to permissive referendum as required by the notice language.
Motions were moved and seconded on the floor and carried without recorded dissents. Several trustees asked staff—identified in meeting discussion as Brian and Megan—technical and budget questions before approving the items. The meeting adjourned after the board resumed a separate, more deliberative review of the draft sustainability plan.
What happens next: the clerk will post the required resolution notices; project procurement and scheduling details were not finalized at the meeting and will be handled by staff. The new police contract is effective retroactively to June 1, 2025, and runs through May 31, 2029.
