Representatives of two local nonprofits asked the Douglasville City Council on April 16 to provide the local‑government approval letters required to apply to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) for emergency shelter funding.
Carolyn Pounds (Vision 21 Concepts) said her organization has operated reentry housing and a men's shelter since 1999 and manages the Douglas County Women’s Shelter. Pounds said the agency provides 90‑day temporary housing, case management, life‑skills training, food support and other services and that the city’s signature would be a letter of support rather than a request for municipal funding.
Teresa Smith (Sharehouse, Inc.) asked for the council’s signature to support an application for up to $80,000 to help with operating costs, maintenance and staffing for the domestic‑violence shelter. Smith reiterated that Sharehouse is the primary safe haven for victims in the area and does not seek direct city funding now, only the DCA acknowledgment required for the grant submission.
Councilmembers praised both organizations’ community service and agreed to place the items on the consent agenda for Monday to provide the requested local‑government endorsement.
