The Douglasville City Council heard details on April 16 about a needed gas infrastructure relocation to support the city hall redevelopment. Staff requested authority for the mayor to sign an agreement with Atlanta Gas Light Company for relocation work along the alleyway serving the new city hall site and Courthouse Square East at a cost of $181,812. Jacob Adams, the CPS program manager representing the city’s contractor, described the recommended plan: retire and cap the existing lines running through the alley and O'Neal Plaza, tie into a main in Courthouse Square East, and install a new tap that will serve the businesses and new city hall; the new line will tee behind the Pope building to provide service.
Adams said AGL and the project’s civil engineer reviewed and signed off on the routing, and staff will coordinate sequencing to minimize service interruptions (install the new line and connections prior to termination of the old line). Councilmembers asked how long outages would last and whether businesses were informed; Chelsea Jackson said staff and Main Street held a town‑hall with businesses about a month ago and provide weekly project updates and newsletters.
Council indicated support for placing the agreement on Monday’s consent agenda for formal approval. No final signature was executed at the work session.
