Azusa Unified board adopts 2026'27 budget, approves multiple contracts and an assistant superintendent contract

The Azusa Unified School District Board of Education on June 23 approved the district's 2026'27 adopted budget, voted to award several bids and contracts for facilities work and services, and approved an employment contract for an Assistant Superintendent, all by unanimous 5-0 votes.
The board adopted the 2026'27 budget following the public meeting; the motion passed 5-0. During the same agenda block the board approved capital and operational items that had been presented to the board: a bid award to replace Hodge Elementary's walk-in refrigeration, a contract with Caressa LLC, a roof-repair bid for bungalows at various sites, an agreement with Universal Coating Incorporated, a parking-lot expansion rebid at Dalton and Lee, and an agreement with ABNY General Engineering Incorporated. Each item was moved, seconded, and approved 5-0.
In a Brown Act summary required before final action, the board announced terms for the Assistant Superintendent contract: a three-year term beginning July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2029; annual salary of $216,481.20; health and welfare benefits up to $20,835.70 to the district; and a $50,000 term life insurance policy. The terms also include 12 days of sick pay per year and 30 days of paid vacation per year and reimbursement for professional dues and actual expenses. The board approved the contract (vote recorded as passed).
The board also reported that in closed session it unanimously approved the dismissal of a permanent classified employee (employee number 681502) for cause pursuant to Education Code Section 45113; the board said it would not comment further to respect privacy.
A board member asked that future large-ticket contract items be reviewed by the governance committee for possible inclusion on the consent calendar so the board can consider them in a governance meeting if desired. All formal vote tallies announced on the record for these items were 5-0.
