Lake contractor reports algae, installs compressor cabinet to cut Masters Lake noise; planting delayed pending Edgewater agreement

Bill Kurth of Premier Lakes reported to the River Ridge board on July 23 that the lakes, preserves and dry retention areas are generally in good shape, though seasonal algae growth was noted.
Kurth said a cabinet installed around the compressor at Masters Lake lowered the measured sound level from 64 to 52 decibels and that, in his view, the result was acceptable. Operations Manager Shane Willis, who participated in the lake audit, cautioned that "the issue is not so much about the decibels but it is the tone of the aerator," and recommended exploring relocating the compressor to reduce audible impacts to nearby properties. Kurth and Willis will coordinate on possible compressor relocation and report back at the next meeting.
Edgewater-area concerns also arose. Chair Bob Schultz summarized issues in Edgewater, including flooding and littoral planting, and recommended meeting with the Edgewater association to seek an agreeable solution. The Board reached consensus that Canna lilies should not be planted. As a result, staff placed proposed plantings at Lake E4-A on hold until the Edgewater Condo Association and management reach an agreement; staff will resubmit the proposal if and when an agreement is reached.
Separately, Shane Willis presented the annual quality assurance audit for lake maintenance and dry retention and reported overall improvement and no compliance issues; he said audits will be scheduled earlier next year due to higher water levels.
No formal vote was taken on compressor relocation or plantings at the July 23 meeting; staff will return with recommendations.
