Council accepts S&P engagement, sells playground equipment, explores new City Hall site and approves fire department donation

During routine new-business votes on June 8, 2026, the Red Lake Falls City Council approved several administrative items. Joyce Kalbakdalen moved and Kyle Thibert seconded acceptance of an engagement letter with S&P Global Ratings for a $21,400 fee to support the city's financing work; the motion passed unanimously.
The council accepted the highest bids for surplus playground equipment: Cole Seeger purchased the Teter Totter ($255), Swing Gate ($15) and Digger ($25) for a combined $295; Ryan Lato purchased the Monkey Bars ($16) and the swing set farthest from the road ($103) for a combined $119. Buyers must remove equipment and foundations before 4:00 p.m. on June 16, 2026.
Neil Knaack moved and John Kleven seconded a motion to table discussion about City Hall and pursue the possibility of acquiring the Red Lake Electric building; the council approved the motion unanimously. The motion halts further action on the current City Hall item while staff pursues information about the alternative site.
The council also approved Resolution #06-03-2026, accepting a $500 donation from Bethany Lutheran Church to the Red Lake Falls Volunteer Fire Department for its pumper truck; the resolution passed unanimously.
All actions were recorded as unanimous votes by Mayor Allen Bertilrud and council members Joyce Kalbakdalen, Cheryl Matzke, John Kleven, Neil Knaack and Kyle Thibert. The meeting adjourned at 6:56 p.m.
