Rose Creek mayor to resign Dec. 21; council accepts resignation and tables appointment

Mayor Craig Weis announced at the Dec. 4 Rose Creek City Council meeting that he will resign effective Dec. 21 after moving out of the city. The council voted to accept his resignation and adopted a resolution declaring the office vacant.
Councilman Wendel Sprung moved to accept the resignation and Councilman Mark Conradt seconded. In a roll-call vote Conradt, Sprung, Felten and Greenlee voted yes; Mayor Weis abstained. The clerk recorded the tally as four yeas, zero nays and one abstention.
Council members attempted to name a successor during the meeting. A motion to appoint Councilwoman Bobbie Greenlee to the mayor’s post failed; a subsequent motion proposing Councilman Wendel Sprung, Councilman Andrew Felten or Councilman Mark Conradt as mayor also failed. After those unsuccessful votes, Councilman Conradt moved and Councilman Felten seconded a motion to table the appointment until further notice; that motion carried.
The council did not set a timeline or procedure for filling the vacancy during the meeting. City Clerk/Treasurer Kristine Allas recorded the vote and will carry out any required administrative steps. The council is next scheduled to meet at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024.
