Red Willow County approves budget transfers, bailiff agreement and $637,344.97 in claims

The Red Willow County Board of Commissioners on June 22 unanimously approved a series of budget amendments, routine contracts and claims to address higher-than-expected medical costs and county operations. The board approved Resolutions No. 1592–1595 to amend budget authority and transferred budget authority from the Inheritance Tax to the General Fund and then to the Self-Insurance Fund to cover higher medical claims; the resolutions amend budget authority only and do not change taxes collected.
The board also approved a new bailiff agreement, subject to participation by neighboring counties, after Judge Patrick Heng presented that agreement to the board; the current agreement was noted to expire June 30, 2026. Commissioners Ted Gans, Randy Dean and Charles Fritsche voted aye on the bailiff agreement motion.
On the consent agenda the board approved minutes, accounts payable and payroll claims totaling $637,344.97, an agreement with Daniel D. Miller, CPA for 2026–2027 budget preparation, and Resolution No. 1591 to transfer budget authority between functions in the General Fund. A separate, technical tax roll correction (Tax Roll Correction No. 7 for 2025) showing a $5.62 increase was presented by Assessor Lori Stevens and approved by the board.
The board discussed and approved a plan to open a time capsule buried in front of the courthouse during Heritage Days in September; the Mayor, Chamber of Commerce and Museum agreed that objects removed would be displayed at the Museum. The meeting was adjourned to reconvene July 13, 2026.
Actions taken were recorded by roll call for each motion; where a roll call was taken, Commissioners Gans, Dean and Fritsche voted in the affirmative. No formal motions to change tax rates were recorded in the meeting minutes.
