Hackberry Elementary School District Board rejects referral policy, approves broad package of advisory policies

Hackberry Elementary School District #3’s Governing Board met in special session July 14 at Cedar Hills School in Kingman and voted to reject Advisory Policy No. 716 while approving a large package of advisory policies and related regulations and exhibits.

Board President Leanne Donason called the meeting to order; Christina Ramirez, Superintendent/Principal, was present. Roll call listed Leanne Donason, Pam Adams, Tammy Herrera, Valerie Grimes and Sam Dell as present and Bryan Wright as not in attendance. The board approved the meeting agenda at the start of the session.

On Old Business, the board considered a second read of Advisory Policy No. 716 (JLDAB and related regulation/exhibit), described as "Referrals to Other Agencies." On a motion by Pam Adams, seconded by Valerie Grimes, the board voted (recorded as 4-0) to not adopt Advisory Policy No. 716.

The board then adopted multiple advisory policies by recorded motions (each motion shown on the agenda as passing 4-0). Among the adopted items were Advisory Policies Nos. 783–786 covering student fund‑raising activities, student discipline exhibits, parental involvement in education and procedures for public concerns or complaints about instructional resources; Advisory Policy No. 808 addressing special instructional programs; and a broad governance package (Advisory Policies Nos. 819–857) covering board operational goals, board evaluation, board powers and responsibilities, meeting procedures and public participation exhibits. The agenda also records approval for Advisory Policies Nos. 863–865 (including updates to the basic instructional program and sex offender notification provisions) and a package of fiscal and administrative policies (Nos. 876–905) on matters such as budget format and schedule, audits, purchasing and payroll procedures.
