The Hackberry Elementary School District #3 governing board adopted its fiscal year 2026 budget during a regular meeting July 8 at Cedar Hills School.
Superintendent Christina Ramirez and Business Manager Sam Dell presented financial updates in the meeting called to order by Board President Leanne Donason. On the board’s motion, carried 5‑0, members approved the adopted FY2026 budget. The district reported a year‑over‑year increase in funds of $28,676.70 (4%) and a current bank balance of $725,496.50; Dell said the district closed May with a positive budget balance of $59,848.07 and expects approximately $100,000 in maintenance‑and‑operations funds and $20,000 in capital funds to roll over into the new fiscal year.
The board handled a broad consent agenda that included approval of the June 10 regular meeting minutes; donations; expense vouchers 2583–2585; payroll vouchers 2536–2539; inventory disposal forms for FY25; and the appointment of Samuel Dell as Student Activities Treasurer for SY25‑26. Each consent item was approved on motions recorded in the minutes as passing 5‑0.
In new business the board approved several personnel and operational items, each on unanimous recorded votes of 5‑0: a $5,000 stipend for Lead Teacher/Mentor Debbie Lund; the hiring of Magdalena Baker as a part‑time custodian for SY25‑26; adoption of an administration evaluation tool for SY25‑26; revisions to the Student and Parent Handbook and the Employee Handbook for SY25‑26; a Cyber Incident Plan and Media Response Plan; and an Emergency Operations Plan for SY25‑26.
Board members said the handbook and operational revisions aim to ensure readiness for the coming school year. Superintendent Ramirez noted that teachers are returning next week and that Back to School Night is scheduled for July 17, 4–5 p.m.
The board also scheduled a special meeting for July 14 at 9:00 a.m. to continue review of an extensive batch of ASBA advisory policies, which were discussed during this meeting. The meeting adjourned at 5:30 p.m.; the adjournment motion was recorded as passing 4‑0 after a board member experienced internet connectivity issues and was dismissed from the meeting.
