Parks committee objects to last-minute plan to consolidate festival booths

Several members said the decision came at the last minute and undercut months of volunteer planning.
"I feel like we're being pushed into one big bubble instead of having our own… I feel like the city is saying we can't be individuals anymore," one committee member said, stressing the committee’s desire to retain a visible, distinct presence at the festival.
Staff acknowledged the complaint, said the events function has recently been reorganized, and pledged to talk with recreation staff (Tyro and team) and the event coordinator Annie to explore options and to consider a liaison from the parks committee to smooth coordination.
Committee members and staff agreed to continue discussions and to use the subcommittee structure to coordinate with recreation so volunteers’ work is not wasted if a booth plan changes.
