Doraville City Council adopted an ordinance on Aug. 20 to prohibit public sales of animals in public places, an item presented as a redlined update to the code to align with recent state language and local enforcement needs.
City attorney (Cecil) explained the changes and said staff had engaged county partners about a companion animal registry. The redline included a clarifying enforcement provision to allow code enforcement officers to issue violations under the new section.
Council members asked clarifying questions and then voted in favor of the ordinance on second read. The motion passed by recorded vote; council members present voted to adopt the provision prohibiting transient animal sales.
Staff said the separate item — a registry that would require further coordination with the county — will be returned to council after staff and county officials finalize administrative details.
The ordinance takes effect per the usual municipal code process following second‑read approval and staff will follow up on enforcement procedures and county coordination for a registry.
